How to Change Wheels on an Electric Pallet Jack
While changing electric pallet jack wheels may seem like a difficult task, it is actually a simpler process than you may think. There are two options when changing wheels, one is applied to the electric pallet trucks fork wheels and one is applied to the directional wheels which we have detailed below:
How to Change Wheels on an Electric Pallet Jack – Fork Wheels
- First step is to turn the pallet truck around and have it secured in a location so that it won’t wobble or move
- Remove the tension pins, located next to the wheel, by utilising a hammer and a mandrel
- Remove the axle but make sure to keep it on hand
- Install the new wheels and place the axle back to its original position
- Put the tension pins back in place
- Repeat on the other side
How to Change Wheels on an Electric Pallet Jack – Directional Wheels
- Start by prodding the protective cap of the wheel open
- Remove the snap ring using a pair of pliers and pull the wheel from the axle
- Place the new wheel on the axle and position the white spacer of the old wheel onto the new one
- Position a new snap ring back onto the side of the axle
- Put the protective cap back on
- Repeat on other side
Signs Your Electric Pallet Jack Wheels Need Changing
There are a few notable factors that will suggest that your electric pallet jack wheels need changing. These include but are not limited to:
Flat Spots On The Tread
If you notice flat spots on the tread of the wheel, it is important you no longer use the pallet truck. This is because if you continue to use the vehicle, more force will have to be generated to move the pallet truck which could cause serious damage not only to the floors of your facilities, but the pallet truck itself.
Broken Or Cracked Wheels
When you let a loaded pallet truck drive from a step or curb onto the ground, there’s always a chance that the wheels will crack due to the weight and forces of gravity. If this is done repeatedly, the risk of wheels cracking or breaking will drastically increase.
Obvious Signs of Wear And Tear
The final sign your electric pallet jack wheels need changing is obvious signs of wear and tear. What we mean by this is whether there are notable scratches, dents, misalignment of the wheel directions or clear signs of resistance when pulling/pushing the pallet truck. If any of these are easy to spot, it is definitely time you change your wheels before any catastrophic accidents or reductions in workplace productivity occurs.
